Grand
Junction, Colorado Student directed by senior Acting/Directing major Wayne Blumberg, Misery follows the chilling home incarceration and subsequent torture of celebrated novelist Paul Sheldon. Following a car accident in a terrible storm in Western Colorado, Paul is “rescued” by his number one fan, Annie. Intent on changing the course of his most recently published novel, she ties him to his bed and forces him to write in his injured state. In the role made famous by Kathy Bates, senior Acting/Directing major Megan Cunningham portrays the schizophrenic fan, Annie. The part of novelist Paul Sheldon is played by junior Acting/Directing major, Theodore Jasper. “It’s really difficult because we have to make it look realistic while making sure that he doesn’t actually get hurt -- but it’s a really fun challenge!” says actress Megan Cunningham who, in one of the most memorable scenes, chops off Jasper’s (Paul) foot. Misery runs Thursday, August 16—Saturday, August 18 at 7:30 pm in the Mesa Experimental Theatre (a.k.a. Black Box). This production is not appropriate for children under age 14. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, and $5 for students and can be purchased at the door. The Box Office opens one hour prior to the event.
