Montrose, Colorado [2005]
Every Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. throughout the summer, Montrose’s
Main Street is transformed into a jubilant celebration of the sidewalk
arts. Come discover for yourself the local wealth of musicians and artists
and downtown restaurants and shops. Then wrap up your evening with an intimate
concert at The Coffee Trader.
This summer, some surprises are in store for the popular street festival’s
fourth season. A passport program called “Tour de Main” will give Main
in Motion participants the chance to win a “Trip to Switzerland” prize
package, while the local children’s museum will coordinate activities for
families with kids. Expect a special “Ride the Rockies” event June 21.
Especially
exciting is the chance for Main in Motion, recently incorporated as its
own non-profit organization, to give something back to the arts community.
“We’ve got two scholarships,” said Cazwellas owner Donn Wagner, “The Main
in Motion Daily Press and Simpson Gallery scholarships for art and music.”
The $750 scholarships will be administered through Mesa State College;
qualified applicants must be interested in pursuing an education in the
arts.
“People are starting to understand that downtown is really alive,” Wagner
said. “Main in Motion is the catalyst for an evening, a gathering of friends.
It’s a chance for everybody to get out and stroll Main Street and just
enjoy the town they live in…. That’s very rare in this day and age.”
Main in Motion kicks off this year on June 2.
