WHAT A PRIVILEGE it is to be part of the 50th anniversary of Montrose Economic Development Corporation. The success we have enjoyed goes beyond the story of MEDC. It is the story of Montrose and the community itself.
Our mission is to strengthen Montrose Country’s economic base and increase the standard of living for all of our residents through the retention, expansion, attraction, and development of primary jobs and capital investments. This includes promotion of workforce enhancement, agriculture advancement, and other business development that provides economic diversification and stabilization for all of Montrose County.
Over the past fifty years, five business parks have been developed for job creation. Forty-two primary employers, many who are part of the global business community, have been assisted with either expansion or relocation efforts.
Not all of these companies are here today. Attrition is a reality. This is why economic development needs to be an ongoing effort. Primary jobs bring new wealth (dollars) into our community. These dollars will be spent on goods and services our local businesses provide. As primary jobs increase, new  business opportunities emerge, adding to the diversity of our community.
Looking back over half a century of growth and accomplishments, our community gives us a lot to be proud of. Looking ahead, we anticipate growth here to exceed three percent annually, with a population of 50,000 by the year 2015. The next ten years will see as much or more change than we experienced in the last fifty. Governor Bill Ritter’s commitment toward economic development that will make us a key player in a world economy is just the beginning. We need to keep our eyes on the horizon and plan well for our future.
