| EGYPT REVISITED New exhibit by Theresa Hochhalter Story by Caole Lowry; Photo courtesy Planet Earth and 4 Directions Gallery Planet Earth & the 4 Directions Gallery Theresa Hochhalter
is back! She brings with her a continuous theme of Egypt in her mind,
taking us on a trip down the Nile. There, a goddess (Nut?) lays out
magic carpets in a pen and ink drawing and Frieda Kahlo, collaged,
wears the crown of Cleopatra...and in another collage combined with
painting, King Tut has four legs, a tail and a smile as beguiling as
the Mona Lisa. It is delightful! This show includes drawings, paintings, collages and 3-dimensional functional sculpture (a dog to hold your jewelry, perhaps?) In her world, a cat might be your babysitter or children costume as animals and animals become human, getting hungry or drunken, or sitting, like a guest in your livingroom! Truly anything can happen when it comes to Ms. Hochhalter’s boundless creativity. Hey! Anubus, the Egyptian God of the Dead seemingly has bored his blind date to death in one drawing and in another, 3 heads are better than one and 4 legs are better still! She is outrageous in her visual humor. Her colors are bright and her compositions and techniques are skillful and exacting...and well.....a hint of genius? Theresa says she gleaned inspiration from Gary Larsen early on, and then Frieda Kahlo, Mexican painter-enchantress and the playful painter Juan Miro. Says Theresa in understatement, "I just like to make things." Indeed. You are invited on a trip down the Nile. Bring your imagination.
